We have different displays of work throughout the school. We have displayed the belen pictures sent from Spain with our tree of hands.

Every year, each class performs their own assembly.
This year, 4W did their assembly about Christmas in Spain.
The children sang four Christmas songs in Spanish and English and also spoke about Spanish traditions

(for example, the Day of the Kings).

Cada ano, las clases hacen una asamblea. Este ano, 4W hizo una asamblea sobre la navidad en Espana. Los ninos cantaron cuatro canciones navidenas en espanol e ingles y ademas hablaron de tradiciones espanolas (por ejemplo, el Dia de Reyes).

A recording of the children singing a Spanish lullaby will be sent via e-mail.

This is a picture of our school. We are very close to the town centre and the infant school is across the road. Altogether, there are around 360 pupils aged between 7 and 11.

All classes have a Spanish lesson every week, it is made cross curricular wherever possible. The children really enjoy learning about Spanish culture and traditions.

Esta es una foto de nuestra escuela. Estamos muy cerca del centro de la ciudad. En total, hay sobre 360 alumnos de 7 a 11 anos.

Todas las clases tienen una clase de espanol cada semana. Si posible, usamos el espanol en otras asignaturas, por ejemplo, el arte o la geografia. A los ninos les encanta mucho aprender de la cultura y tradiciones de Espana.

Bilingual Food Dictionary

In Science/English we have been learning about food groups and a healthy diet. With the computer we have compiled a bilingual food dictionary (including typical Spanish foods and recipes) to send our friends in Wickford. Each pair has chosen a page of the dictionary and we hope to finish and send it by email next week.

En Ciencias/Inglés hemos estado aprendiendo sobre los grupos de alimentos y la dieta saludable. En el ordenador hemos hecho un diccionario bilingüe de comida (incluyendo algunas recetas de comidas típicas españolas como la paella, tortilla,...) para enviar a nuestros amigos en Wickford por email. Cada pareja se ha encargado de una página del diccionario y esperamos mandarlo la semana próxima.

Dino research

In year 4 in Science we have been learning about dinosaurs, when and where they lived, what they ate, what they were like,... We have done some research on the Internet and, in pairs, we have compiled the information using a Word Processing programme.
We have practised different computer skills we learnt last year (inserting images, WordArt...)

Autumn

The children in year 3 in El Peñascal have done lots of things linked to English and Art about Autumn. This display shows some of our work, autumn poems, autumn leaves and scarecrows. We hope you like it.

Los alumnos de 3º han hecho muchas cosas en clase de Inglés y también en Plástica en torno al otoño. Este display es una muestra de nuestro trabajo, donde se ven poemas de otoño, hojas y espantapájaros. Esperamos que os guste.

Learning Spanish in Wickford

This half term we have been learning how to say different animals in Spanish. This has been linked to our Literacy, Music, Science and Art. We began by repeating words for different animals and looking at the different words for ‘the’. We noticed that there are four different ways to say it in Spanish whereas in English there is only one. We found this really interesting.

We then sang a Spanish rap called ‘Do you have a pet?’ We really enjoyed singing it. After the rap, we learnt adjectives to remember the animals making sure that we out the adjective after the noun. During our last lesson about animals we read a story and then put together a similar story ourselves.

Esta mitad de trimestre hemos practicado los animales. Ha sido vinculado con la Musica, Ciencia y Arte. Empezamos con la repetición de los animales diferentes notando como decir ‘the’. En ingles solo usamos ‘the’ mientras que en español hay cuatro formas diferentes. Lo encontramos muy interesante.

Después, cantamos una canción que se llama ‘Tienes animales en casa?’ Nos divertimos mucho. Entonces aprendimos adjetivos para describir los animales. Tuvimos que recordar poner los adjetivos después del ‘nombre.’ Durante nuestra ultima clase sobre los animales leimos un cuento y entonces escribimos uno similar.

A special visit from England

Every year we have some students from Leeds. They come to our school and do their teacher training for one month in El Peñascal . They usually visit different classes in the school and in years 3 and 4 they visited us and shared a nice lesson with us. We prepared the visit in advance and asked them some questions about their city, their likes and what they had seen in Segovia.
We also asked them about schools and meals in England. In year 3 and 4 the children sang some songs to her and they taught us a game, "Heads down, thumbs up" and a dancing song, "Gigolo".

We enjoyed the visit a lot and wish them the best.

Como cada año, hemos tenido a tres estudiantes de Leeds. Vienen a nuestro colegio a hacer sus prácticas durante un mes en El Peñascal. Normalmente visitan varias clases del colegio y en 3º y 4º han compartido una clase estupenda con nosotros. Antes, preparamos la visita en la que les preguntamos cosas sobre su ciudad, sus gustos y lo que habían visto de Segovia.
También aprovechamos para hacerles preguntas sobre el colegio (horarios,...) y comidas en Inglaterra. En los dos cursos, los niños cantaron algunas canciones para ellas y ellas nos enseñaron un juego y una canción.

Todos disfrutamos mucho y les deseamos lo mejor.

Our first activity: Comparing school calendars

In El Peñascal, the first thing we have done this year has had to do with the school calendar.
We got the school calendar from the WickfordJr. School website and the children in year 4 compared the school calendars in both schools.
First we completed a chart with dates for the beginning of school year, terms, holidays...
Then we used a frame to report the results of our work. We found out that we have some similarities like the beginning of some terms but we also have things that are quite different:
We use different names for the terms: In Spain we just say first, second and third term, meanwhile in England season names are used. Another difference we found was that in Spain we don't have half term holidays and that's why we finish the school year in June, instead of July.


Lo primero que hemos hecho este año ha estado relacionado con el calendario escolar. Conseguimos el calendario de Wickford Jr. School en la página web del centro y en clase, los alumnos de 4º hemos comparado los calendarios de los dos colegios. Primero completamos un cuadro con fechas del comienzo del curso, trimestres, vacaciones, ...
Después explicamos los resultados de nuestro trabajo . Hemos descubierto que hay algunas cosas similares como el comienzo de algunos trimestres pero que tenemos otras cosas bastante diferentes: En Inglaterra utilizan los nombres de las estaciones para nombrar los trimestres en lugar de decir primer, segundo y tercer trimestre como hacemos en España. Otra diferencia es que en España no tenemos vacaciones de mitad de trimestre y por eso terminamos el curso en Junio y no en Julio.

El Peñascal (Segovia)

El Peñascal school has been involved in a bilingual project (MECD- British Council) since 1996.
Some subjects, apart from English, are taught in English: Science and Art.

El colegio El Peñascal sigue el proyecto bilingüe iniciado en 1996 tras el convenio entre el Ministerio de Educación y el British Council.
Algunas materias, además de Inglés, se enseñan en este idioma: Conocimiento del Medio y Plástica.

We have friends in Wickford

The schools El Peñascal in Segovia(Spain) and Wickford Junior School in England have established a link. This blog will show some of the materials the children in both schools will exchange.
